LED   The future of lighting is here

LED is a new lighting technology that utilizes solid state electronic components called Light-Emitting Diodes as light sources. Soon to become the primary form of both commercial and residential lighting, LED technology has numerous advantages over conventional lighting and has seen huge increases in efficacy in recent years with vastly higher power and higher lumen-per-watt light emitting diodes being developed. LEDs can now far outperform most conventional lamps. Cree recently announced via press release an “industry-best reported efficacy record of 208 lumens per watt for a white power LED.

JAMES RODNEY CREATIVE will be your guide into the new and rapidly expanding world of LED lighting technology. I deal with the best leading-edge LED lighting products in the industry.

An ever increasing number of LED lighting products are earning the ENERGY STAR qualification for Solid State lighting. ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy aimed at saving businesses and consumers money and protecting the environment through promotion of energy efficient products and practices. Many LED Products that meet ENERGY STAR guidelines for energy efficiency and performance qualify for substantial rebates from PG&E & other utilities companies.

ADVANTAGES OF LED

• Longevity - LED lights are designed to last 50,000 hours or more. 50,000 hours is 50 times the life of a typical incandescent bulb. One LED lamp burning 6 hours per day every day would last for
almost 23 years.

• Energy Efficiency - LED lighting can save up to 85 percent of the electricity used by incandescent bulbs and up to 50 percent of electricity
used by fluorescent. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that the coming widespread adoption of LED lighting will:

   •    Reduce electricity demands from lighting by 62 percent.

   •    Eliminate 258 million metric tons of carbon emissions.

   •    Reduce the amount of materials being put into landfills.

   •    Avoid the building of 133 new power plants.

   •    Save the US over $280 billion.

• Cool - Around 90% of the energy emitted from incandescent bulbs is converted to heat - only 10% actually goes into producing light. That’s why you’ll burn yourself
if you touch a lighted incandescent bulb. LED lighting is 90% light and 10% heat - about 85 percent more efficient than incandescent bulbs with only a tiny fraction of the heat.

• Safe - LEDs are 100% non-toxic and don’t contain any hazardous materials like mercury, as fluorescent tubes and CFLs do. LEDs
 are 90% recyclable.

• Instant On - fluorescent lights can take several minutes or longer to achieve full brightness, especially in cold conditions. LED lights
are instant-on at full power and can withstand extremely cold conditions. This also makes them a perfect match to work with motion
 or proximity sensors.

• Color - Quality LEDs can produce high CRI (Color Rendering Index) wavelength balanced light that shows colors more accurately than fluorescent.

• Robust - LEDs do not "burn out" or fail. As all light producing devices do, they slowly lose brightness over time. At 50,000 hours, most LEDs are designed
to still provide at least 70 percent of their initial light output. Multiple factors such as fixture design, temperature and current
determine actual LED lifetime.
